The Bahamas is one of the most geographically complicated nations of the Atlantic. It is a bunch of 700 islands and 2,000 cays, called as “keys”. There are many tourist attractions in Bahamas.
Pelican Cays Land and Sea Park
Pelican Cays Land and Sea Park is famous for its undersea caves. These are apparently eternal coral reefs, plentiful plant and marine life. The area of this park is approximately 13 kms, situated at Great Abaco Island on north of Cherokee Sound. This is a most preferred place for scuba divers.
New Providence Island
For the past 300 years there was a tragedy occurred near Nassau, that many ships have sunk in the area. It is possible to see a large number of beautiful wreck sites with the help of dive experts. You can also see the underwater gardens of elkhorn coral and numerous reefs crammed with underwater life. Shark Wall is the most impressive dive site, and it is 10 miles away from the southwest coast of New Providence. It is really best place with colorful sea life and healthiest coral offshore.
Lucayan National Park
This is a spectacular park with underground freshwater cave system. The distance is nearly 6 miles, and this is the longest underwater cave in the world. The huge cave consists of spiral staircases, which take you into a freshwater world occupied by mosquito fish, freshwater eels, shrimp, fruit bats and a species of crustacean and rare species you can not see somewhere else. You can see five eco systems of the park such as pine forests, mangrove swamps, sand dunes, rocky coppice and whiteland coppice on the 16-hectare. It is a best place to take sunbathes on a sandy beach. It is interesting to see hummingbirds, orchids and barn owls on the way.
Harbour Island
Apart from beautiful coral and collection of colorful fishes it is suitable place for divers. Divers can enjoy some exclusive experiences here like the Current Cut, a thrilling underwater channel that takes you on a flowing underwater current for 10 minutes. You can also see four wrecked ships recline nearby, at the point of less than 39 feet.
Grand Bahama Island
The island surrounded by reefs, there are many dive sites nearby including the caves, the wall and Treasure Reef. Apart from this there are many more dive sites like Ben Blue Hole, Spit City and Rose Garden. Bahama Island is the home of UNEXCO which also called as Underwater Explorer’s Society. It is one of the international standard dive operators.
Snorkeling is impressive next to all sides of the island. Most experienced divers can go deeper waters offshore to underwater cages to nourish swarms of mako, reef sharks and bulls.
Bimini
Bimini is famous for its game fishing, it swanks outstanding diving too. You can see millions of color fishes five kilometers of offshore reefs. Snorkelers can visit black coral gardens, blue holes and an abnormal arrangement on the sea floor that is allegedly part of the vanished continent of Atlantis. For divers it is possible to see the wreck of the motorized yacht, the Sapona, owned by Hendry Ford. The Sapona was sunk in deep waters of the coastline in the year 1929. |
