Attractions in Detroit

Detroit, the traditional headquarters of automotive industry is the largest city in the U.S. state of Michigan. Situated in the banks of river Detroit, it is one of the major port cites in the Midwest region of the U.S. The city was founded by a Frenchman named Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac in the year 1701 and it is the only major city in US that faces Canada to the North.

Detroit has become the synonym for the US automobile industry and the city is also nick named as the Motor City. The city is ranked as the eleventh most populous city in United States with an estimated population of 10, 00,000. During 1950s it is the forth most populous city in the United States with a population of around 2 million. Later there was a major shift in population to the sub urban areas of Detroit.

Automotive Hall of Fame

The Automotive hall of Fame is a must see place to a true car lover. Situated close to the Henry Ford Museum, this hall exhibits the details of cars and persons who remain as milestones in the automotive industry.  The hall features interactive events such as designing you own car, participating in safety demos etc.

Detroit Institute of Arts

It is the fifth largest arts museum in the US which exhibits more than 65,000 works including the rare ones such as the masterpieces of Botticelli, Picasso, Van Gogh, Caravaggio, Rembrandt, Bureghel the Elder, Rubens and Cézanne. The museum even displays the artistic works of American Impressionists and Matisse, Asian antiquities and also the mummies which will be really a feast for your eyes.

Henry Ford Estate

Your tour to Detroit cannot be a complete one unless you visit this attractive estate which was inhabited by Henry Ford, the Pioneer of automotive industry and his wife, Clara. The estate includes a spectacular stone mansion of 56 rooms, each one elaborately furnished with wood. The estate also exhibits some of the personal artifacts and car collections of Henry Ford.

Fox Theatre

In the mid 20th century, music in Detroit has been very much popular and it drew millions of tourists to this motor city. Fox theatre is the country’s largest theatre which witnesses the world-class musicals and concerts every year. The Fox theatre has been so popular that the areas surrounding it are called the “Fox town”.

Detroit Historical Museum This museum gives you the entire history of the city ranging from the time since Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac landed on the banks of the Detroit to the city’s evolution as an industrial headquarters. The museum also allows the visitors to explore the streets of Old Detroit.
