Tourist Attractions in Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Fort Lauderdale is located on the southeastern coast of Florida just thirty miles north of Miami.  Wide beaches, rich waterfronts, intracoastal waterways, exciting downtowm commercial districts and large areas of uptown regions surround Fort Lauderdale. Fort Lauderdale is same like Miami, but comparing to Miami it is small and less crowded. Near the beaches it is possible to see many accommodations with sufficient parking facilities. There are many good hotels in Fort Lauderdale. There are many interesting attractions in and around Fort Lauderdale.

Attractions in Fort Lauderdale

There are many Intracoastal Waterways, bays, river channels and canals throughout the coastline of the United States, which divide the beach areas from downtown Fort Lauderdale. Once upon a time it was possible to see man made canals and channels have been developed as prolific homes with luxurious yachts tied up in their backside. Because of these beautiful surroundings Fort Lauderdale is also called as the “Venice of America”. Port Everglades, the major harbor where you can see most of the shipping crafts, cruise ships and contract fishing boats. It offers the whole thing from small tour ships to large ships, which presents daily trips, gambling excursions, and single day trips to Bahamas by small ferries. It is possible to enjoy the trips to Caribbean Islands and Mexico by large cruises.

Nearby Beaches

On the eastern side of the Intracoastal Waterway lies a narrow shoreline connected with the mainland via several drawbridges. The specialities of these beaches are powdery sand and majestic palm trees. The hotels in the beachside are reasonable comparing to Miami to enjoy the vacations with your family. All the beaches are easily accessible from the hotels and public parks. From the beaches across the avenues you can find many motels with modest price, advanced restaurants, parking places and shops. Fort Lauderdale is the beautiful beach loved by families with children, students, and bargain-seeking tourists. This is the preferred place for “spring break” students particularly in late March. You can enjoy the varieties of art galleries, boutiques, restaurants, specialty shops and nightclubs. It is really interesting to visit the entertainment spot and shopping mall on the banks of the New River.
The western neighborhoods of Fort Lauderdale extend over the flat coastal plain to the very edge of the great Everglades wetlands. They are typically middle class suburban bedroom communities interspersed with shopping centers and commercial areas. The population is a diverse mixture of working class families, retirees from northern states and a variety of immigrants from the Caribbean Islands, South America and Europe.

Transportation of Fort Lauderdale

Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport is the major airport which is situated just five miles (8 kms) from south of downtown. You can get domestic flights to all major US cities. The nearer airport is Miami International Airport, just an hour ride from Fort Lauderdale; Miami International Airport is the major airport with the large selection of International flights. It is just two hours ride to Palm Beach Airport. Amtrak is the major transportation facility in Fort Lauderdale, which offers many trains to all the parts of the area and there are many waterway transports.
