Attractions in Seattle

Seattle is one of the most attractive and vibrant city in the US state of Washington. It is also the most populous city in the north-west region of the United States. Also Seattle is one of the major port cities situated close the U.S – Canada border. Apart from being a major cultural, educational and financial center, Seattle also remains as the seat of King County.

Though people started to inhabit in Seattle 4,000 year ago, European settlement began only in the middle of the 19th century. It was in the year 1853; the settlement was renamed as Seattle by Doc Maynard.

Seattle is officially known as the Emerald City because of the presence of abundant evergreen trees in its surrounding areas. Seattle is also colloquially known as the Jet city and Gateway to Alaska of which the former is due to the influence of the manufacturing of Boeing aircrafts. 

Seattle also has the credit of being the most literate city in US. Out of the 69 largest cities in US, Seattle is ranked first as the most literate city along with the Minneapolis.

Seattle plays a prominent role in the tourism industry of United States. It has lots of attractions to see and enjoy than any other cities in US, which in turn drew millions of tourists every year. Some of the must see places in Seattle are as follows.

Space Needle

This breath taking structure known for its alluring design has become a crowning land mark of the Seattle. Originally built for the 1962 World Expo, this 600 plus feet architecture offers a 360 degree view from its observation deck. The space needle also includes a gift shop, espresso bar and a revolving restaurant which is situated at the top of the observation deck

Museum of Flight

This museum reveals the entire history of the aviation industry from its origin to the evolution it had undergone till present. The exhibits can be seen in the Red Barn, the initial manufacturing plant of the Boeing and also in the Great Gallery Complex

Ballard Locks

Constructed by the white settlers in 1930s, the Ballard locks raises and lowers on a regular basis, allowing the vessels and fishing boats through it. The Ballard also features salmon fish ladders and a seven acre botanical garden which can be seen from an underwater viewing window.

 

Seattle Aquarium

Seattle Aquarium located near the Seattle waterfront, houses a wide variety of species ranging from marine mammals, fishes, invertebrates and birds. The highlighting feature of this aquarium is its 400,000-gallon underwater dome which offers you a 360 degree view of the Puget Sound’s marine life.

Seattle Waterfront

Seattle Waterfront is a perfect place to hangout with your friends where you can see a variety of restaurants and shopping malls. It also offers you a spectacular view of the skyscrapers of Seattle and the vessels on the Puget Sound.
